Have you ever just played with the idea of having the life of your dreams? Most of us, stop ourselves from even contemplating our wildest, hearts desires, because we are afraid of rocking the boat, or being disappointed if things don’t show up.
What if you played with looking at enjoying life, without ever contemplating how to get it? Could it be fun to dream and let your imagination run wild?
Years ago, a friend and I were doing twenty one days in a row of Anthony Robbins’, Personal Power program. We were really jazzed and excited, because on this day, we were going to do Anthony’s “Goal setting workshop” Overflowing with enthusiasm I excitedly invited my husband Ken to join us.
He looked at me like I had just invited him to go have a root canal. “NO!”
I told him all of the reasons why it’s a good idea to set your goals, “NO!”
So I said “If you will sit with us and write your goals, I will… (Do him a big favor, the kind that is more suitable to be written about in Playboy!)
He said. “Let me get my pencil!”
So while my friend and I were making lists of items we would like to have in our lives.
IE: New stereo, New wardrobe. Etc…
My husband sat there and tried to outdo us. He let his mind run WILD. He said things like;
“I would like to have a four bedroom, three bath house, that’s overlooking a lake. The lake is stocked with bass and catfish. We have peddle boats and an electric rowboat to go fishing with.
We have barns and horses, and a golf cart to get around on. We live five miles down a dirt road and one mile past a locked gate. The driveway to the house is lined with trees and rock walls.
Now, Tony’s CD was about 45 minutes long. Ken however finished his goal list, in less than three minutes. He tossed it on the table and said. “There you go girls!” And walked away.
We were not impressed with his attitude… Until we read what he had written. Okay, I owed him!
My husband believed that this goal writing stuff was complete baloney, but I had given him a reason to just let his imagination run wild, and he did! He didn’t give a single thought to “How can I make this happen.” or “I don’t have enough money to do this.” He just had a great time trying to out shine us, and then laughed and walked away.
A few days later, my father told us that he had a friend who was looking for a ranch manager. We applied for the job, and in less than two weeks time, we were hired to manage a horse ranch. Not just any horse ranch, it was a lifestyle of the rich and famous type of vacation home, horse ranch!
The job came with a four bedroom, three bath house that was overlooking a lake! Tree lined driveway, five miles down a dirt road and one mile past a locked gate. My husband had absolutely EVERYTHING he had written on that paper!!! The lake, the boats, the bass and the catfish… In less than TWO WEEKS!!! Plus a sizable income to go with it!
He said. “Next time, I’m going to write down that I am going to own it!”
Let me tell you, it was a lesson that I never forgot!
Think bigger and grander than you have ever dared let yourself. Have fun doing it. Don’t try to force it together. Just keep playing with the images of things that could be fun to have, with out feeling the “Need” to obtain them and the dang things show up!
When you let your thoughts reach for the sky, the blocks that used to hold you back can not reach that high! There are no limits at that altitude.
While living on that ranch, my best friend and goal setting partner, would come to visit for a few days every month. She and Ken and I would sit for hours in the spa overlooking the lake and do guided meditations. (Storytelling if you will.) I would always start the story out with a helicopter landing in our yard, and the pilot inviting us up and taking us on some great adventure. Usually to someplace tropical.
One day while my husband and I were out in our yard, a helicopter flew over really low. We waved up at it, and it LANDED ON OUR LAWN! The pilot got out and introduced himself, one thing led to another and he invited us up. After that, he would fly by, ever week or two and take us out exploring the area! Let me ask you… Do you know anyone who has ever had a FREAKING HELICOPTER LAND ON THEIR LAWN AND INVITE THEM UP?!?!?!
VISUALIZATION WORKS!!! PERIOD!!!
The more fun you can have creating these visions and the wilder and more outrageous they are, the faster they can show up!
Give yourself a gift. Take a few minutes to visualize (and write down) some of the fun things you would do in this life, if money was no object. GO!
Great Story AmyJoe about writing your dreams and goals down..loved it!
